The Northern Awareness Network (NAN) has strongly criticised former Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, describing his recent comments against the Federal Government as “baseless” and an act of “frustrated political manoeuvring.”
In a statement signed by Alhaji Nasiru Sani, National Chairman of NAN, the organisation said El-Rufai’s allegation that the Federal Government is financially enabling insecurity is unfounded and aimed at undermining the administration’s achievements, as well as the efforts of Nigeria’s military and security agencies working to safeguard the country.
> “The people of Nigeria are resilient, and the nation continues to thrive despite the political theatrics of individuals who have lost standing in the public arena,” Sani said.
He stressed that El-Rufai’s bid to sow discord through unsubstantiated claims is not reflective of the unity and progress Nigerians aspire to.
The statement noted that such “mischievous allegations” only serve to distract from genuine efforts to combat insecurity. NAN commended the armed forces for their successes against banditry and terrorism, urging Nigerians to appreciate security personnel rather than be misled by “desperate narratives” aimed at gaining lost political relevance.
NAN also recalled an incident where El-Rufai allegedly sent thugs to attack journalists at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat, injuring several reporters — an action the group said displayed “utter disregard for democracy and press freedom.”
> “The Northern Awareness Network stands against attempts to undermine government integrity and calls on Nigerians to remain vigilant and discerning. We urge Malam El-Rufai to reflect on the societal impact of his actions and embrace constructive engagement as a pathway to progress,” Sani added.
